Emergence of the Human Animal

Emergence of the Human Animal

Chillida-leku, 1 October 2014

Emergence of the Human Animal was organised by Jakiunde for the opening of the XI International Ontology Congress. It took place at Chillida-Leku, which is where the congress normally opens, and was attended by a large group of participants who were interested in the discussion: where, when and how nature evolved to produce an animal with human features and what kind of commotion, what sort of disruption of balances, what type of crisis led to this highly unique occurrence. Old questions with a wide range of answers and uncertainties.

The conference brought together the prestigious speakers Francisco Ayala (geneticist, University of California-Irvine), Jordi Agustí (palaeontologist, director of the DMANISI site, Georgia, Catalan Institute for Research and Advanced Studies ICREA), Giovanni Boniolo (philosopher, University of Milan, European Institute of Oncology, IFOM-IEO, Milan), Eudald Carbonell (archaeologist and anthropologist, co-director of ATAPUERCA and director of the Catalan Institute of Human Palaeoecology and Social Evolution IPHES) and David Lordkipanidze (palaeontologist at the DMANISI site, director of the Georgian National Museum).

Interview with the philosopher Víctor Gómez Pin, who is a member of Jakiunde and the coordinator of the conference:
