Ageing is one of the biggest challenges of our times. Thanks to medical and social advances, we are living longer and longer. This achievement means that we need to respond to the demands which have arisen from this new reality. Actually, the fact that we are living longer will be a true achievement when we are able to do so actively and healthily.
Ageing is a complex phenomenon that requires complex answers. A multidisciplinary approach is needed in order to deal with it effectively.
The precise aim of the conference was to provide a view of ageing from different perspectives, all of which are important for understanding the huge challenge presented by longer life expectancies and for coming up with effective solutions.
The conference was organised by the academic Javier Tejada and featured the following speakers: Dr. Adolfo López de Munain, chief neurologist for the Neuroscience Research department at the BioDonostia Health Research Institute.
Dr. Juan Carlos Arango, a psychologist specialising in the neuropsychology of rehabilitation.
Dr. Antonio Casado da Rocha, professor of bioethics (University of the Basque Country) and member of the Healthcare Ethics Committee (CEA) at Donostia Hospital.
Dr. Unai Martín, professor of sociology (University of the Basque Country) and researcher into sociology of health, sociology of population and methodology and techniques for social research.
The initiative was backed by the Basque Government's Department for Employment and Social Policy and carried out in partnership with the following associations: University of Barcelona, SIforAge, Gisme, Basque Culinary Center and the European Commission.
